STACKED -- a new concert at Joes Pub May 3rd 2007
This was a great concert... We played all the music from the last 15 years -- which involved at least 2,3 or 4 different kinds of music or musical sources... as well as gender shifts...
what fun. Dave Hofstra, Peter Grant, Tomas Ulrich, Steve Tarshis and Jamie Lawrence...
FOXFIRE -- Nora York's project with artist Nancy Spero
The bridge joining art and entertainment has been explored by many important 20th Century artists. Nora York incarnates The Singer within Nancy Spero’s art, activating and embodying selected Spero images. York knowingly riffs on the complexities and questions that Spero’s art asks us to consider.
The music and imagery resulting from the interaction between York and Spero illuminates a shared history. Their collaborative art reveals the subtle layers of meaning that, too often, remain buried in everyday emotions and activities. In collaboration York and Spero-- music and image-- transform, re-animate and re-enchant mythology, history, and pop culture into an intoxicating brew both transitory and profound.
